What is Kalsarp Yoga?

Kalsarp Yoga (or Kaalsarpa Yoga) is a term in Vedic astrology that refers to a specific planetary alignment in an individual’s horoscope. It is considered an unfavorable yoga (planetary combination) believed to bring challenges, difficulties, or delays in various aspects of life. However, its effects and interpretations vary among astrologers.

Formation of Kalsarp Yoga:

Kalsarp Yoga is said to occur when all seven planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) are positioned between the two lunar nodes, Rahu (north node) and Ketu (south node). If all the planets are on one side of the Rahu-Ketu axis, this yoga is formed.

Types of Kalsarp Yoga

There are 12 types of Kalsarp Yoga, depending on the placement of Rahu and Ketu in a specific house. Each type is believed to influence a particular area of life, such as relationships, career, health, or mental peace. A few examples include:

  1. Anant Kalsarp Yoga – Rahu in the 1st house, Ketu in the 7th.
  2. Kulika Kalsarp Yoga – Rahu in the 2nd house, Ketu in the 8th.
  3. Shankhpal Kalsarp Yoga – Rahu in the 4th house, Ketu in the 10th.

Believed Effects of Kalsarp Yoga

  1. Challenges and Delays: It is often linked to obstacles in career, marriage, finances, and health.
  2. Emotional Instability: Some believe it causes feelings of anxiety, dissatisfaction, or loneliness.
  3. Sudden Losses or Gains: It may lead to unpredictable events in life.
  4. Karmic Debts: Astrologers sometimes associate it with unresolved karma from past lives.

Remedies for Kalsarp Yoga

Astrologers may suggest specific remedies to mitigate its effects, such as:

  1. Chanting Mantras: Recitation of mantras like the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra or Rahu/Ketu mantras.
  2. Worship of Lord Shiva: Performing pujas (rituals) like the Kalsarp Shanti Puja, especially in temples like Trimbakeshwar (Nashik) or Ujjain.
  3. Fasting or Donations: Observing fasts on specific days and donating items associated with Rahu and Ketu (e.g., black sesame seeds, iron).
  4. Wearing Gemstones: Some astrologers recommend gemstones, though others may advise against them for Kalsarp Yoga.
